The Challenges of Ownership and Quality of Online Educational Resources

The widespread availability of open online course resources has broken down educational barriers between schools, regions, and even countries, contributing to improving education equity. However, in the traditional Web 2.0 network, there is insufficient protection for the ownership of online education resources, and there is also an imbalance in the quality and development of resources.

These problems are manifested in two aspects. First, online education platforms have different requirements for the ownership and use rights of educational resources. Resource producers have low bargaining power, which makes most teachers unwilling to participate in the development of course resources. The low bargaining power of resource producers makes most teachers unwilling to participate in developing curriculum resources. After the resources are uploaded to the platform, the maintenance and selection services of the resources are insufficient on the platform side, and the copyright of the resource provider is often infringed, discouraging the enthusiasm of the resource sharers. Secondly, the quality of online education resources is uneven. Due to the different entry thresholds for free and fee-based resources, the quality of online educational resources varies greatly, resulting in unequal access to educational resources. This difference in entry thresholds rebuilds the barriers to sharing educational resources.
